What is Studio Pilates?

A Studio session is designed around the Initial Assessment. We make sure you are undertaking programmed exercises that are best suited to you. Our instructors have a Diploma qualification, rather than a Certificate, and hence a better knowledge of pathologies and conditions, and how to treat them. In a Studio class we use the springs of the equipment Joseph Pilates designed to help you to work more efficiently.

How often do I need to come to  class?

Consistency is key. We recommend at least once a week for maintenance; a second class in the week builds your strength. And three classes? …  the results will speak for themselves.

How is Pilates different from Yoga, Feldenkrais or physiotherapy?

  • Pilates is a mind body movement practice with a focus on the “core” (your abdominals, back extensors, and other trunk muscles).

  • Pilates works muscles in their complete range of movements – ie long and short. Pilates uses equipment with springs to promote these types of muscle contractions.

  • Pilates focusses on the optimal positioning of your skeleton in each movement and teaches you how to keep that control whilst moving under different loads.

  • Pilates commonly uses the exhale to engage muscles, rather than relax them.

What people are saying

“Tahmour has changed my life! I’d been told I needed a full knee replacement, but at 38 no one was willing to operate. T has got me back to being able to work 9 hour days on my feet again in 6 months. She has  taught me how to trust and listen to my body. Her compassion towards her clients health and well being, and her meticulous attention to detail and memory continue to amaze me. I wish I had found her 10 years ago!”
